Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at K

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Kalamazoo College

Kalamazoo College is committed to going beyond promoting diversity to improving equity and inclusion and supporting antiracism efforts on campus.

This work requires the input and efforts of many. To this end, Kalamazoo College has been undertaking a number of action items to further our progress and provide a foundation for future strategic planning. These action items started with DEI and intercultural training, as well as anti-racism reading and workshops, for our Board of Trustees, President’s Staff and faculty and staff, and this work will continue on an ongoing basis.

In 2021, President’s Staff drafted a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Bridge Plan to define the College’s current goals and capture DEI initiatives happening across campus and improve line of sight and accountability around these activities. The College also undertook a campus climate assessment to collect data around student, faculty and staff perspectives on K’s climate and the level of support for diversity and equity.

Next Steps: Creating a Vision Together

Are you passionate about making K a more equitable and inclusive place to live and work? Future actions will include convening focus groups to:

  • Develop a DEI vision statement for the College
  • Outline shared definitions that improve how we talk about and understand DEI at K and
  • Create a formal DEI strategic plan for the College using the bridge plan and the climate survey results as a foundation.

We hope that you will take time to review the DEI Bridge Plan and the Campus Climate Survey results and join us in working to promote a culture where all students and employees feel respected, valued and included.
