Transgender Day of Visibility

To learn more and find resources for political engagement, local advocacy, and support/celebration, as well as resources on sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming healthcare:

Student Resources on Campus:

  1. Student Health Center: The staff are incredibly friendly and can speak to students about sexual health and gender-affirming care in order to provide recommendations or referrals to local providers.
  2. Student Counseling Center (269.337.7191)
    1. The Counseling Center has resource guides for many topics, including substance abusesuicide prevention, and specific mental health resources for LGBTQ+BIPOC and marginalized identities.
    2. They also support a pilot Peer Listening program through Dow on campus, where students may speak confidentially to peer listeners on a variety of topics.
  3. Students can connect with supportive staff and trusted faculty, including: 
    1. College Chaplain Liz Candido, who works for interfaith, inclusive, and love-centered support for students of any/no faith (find her office in the Cavern of Stetson Chapel or email ecandido@kzoo.edu). 
    2. Staff at the Center for Civic Engagement, Intercultural Center and Arcus Center can offer safe and supportive spaces for students, as well as offering information on campus and local resources.
    3. Student Development staff, including Dean of Students Malcolm Smith.  
  4. The Center for Civic Engagement offers an array of engagement opportunities through the Students for Reproductive Freedom and K Votes programs for students interested in sexual and reproductive health and civil rights protections. This Spring, opportunities include policy change education and initiatives, local advocacy, democratic participation, and awareness and discussion events.   2. The Trans Lifeline (877-565-8860) provides crisis and non-crisis peer-support services for people who are transgender, non-binary and questioning their gender identity.
  3. The Trevor Project provides information and support to LGBTQ young people 24/7, all year round.
  4. The LGBT National Hotline is available at 1-888-843-4564. They also provide a LGBT Senior Hotline at 1-888-234-7243 and LGBTQ Youth can call 1-800-246-7743
